Acts of giving, cyclothons and meetings marked the 4th anniversary celebrations of International ‘Art of Giving’ Day on May 17, 2017. ‘Art of Giving’ is the philosophy of life of noted educationist and social activist Prof. Achyuta Samanta. It stands on the simple premise – ‘Live to give and give to live’. This year’s theme was ‘Environment protection and giving back to mother Earth’. People in 100 cities of India, including Bengaluru, Kolkata, Patna, Mumbai and New Delhi, and 100 cities abroad joined in the celebrating the day that promotes selfless giving. In Odisha, thousands of people enthusiastically participated in cyclothons held in 40 locations across the state, including all 30 district headquarters.   KISS has been validated by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) India for a period of three years after a strict process of due diligence. The validation process involved a close assessment of KISS 's organizational & programmatic practices (including basic legal, regulatory & fiscal compliances) through both desk review and site visits. CAF India is a registered charitable trust set up in 1988 to provide strategic and management support to corporates, individuals and NGOs with an aim to ensure greater impact of their philanthropic and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) investments. The projects pursued by CAF lend rigorous support to marginalised societies in order to improve their socio-economic conditions. KISS and UNDP join hands to Skill Tribal Youths in Odisha
Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have joined hands to extend the benefits of skill development to tribal youths living in the backward districts of Odisha. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on March 30, 2017 to establish a Centre for Excellence to demonstrate technology-enabled blended skill training model for tribal youth. The Centre of Excellence, housed in KISS, will support Implementation Labs located in tribal dominated districts like Sundargarh and Koraput.

A delegation from United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) visited KIIT & KISS on March 29, 2017. The delegation, comprising of representatives from 21 universities of the United States, visited various campuses of KIIT and units of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). They had a fruitful discussion with Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS and interacted with the students of KISS to explore about avenues of higher education available to them.

Dibrugarh University Confers Honorary D.Litt. on Prof. Achyuta Samanta
Dibrugarh University (DU) of Assam conferred D.Litt. Honoris Causa on eminent educationist and social activist Prof. Achyuta Samanta of Odisha at a special convocation held on 22nd March 2017. The honour was to be given at the 16th convocation ceremony of the University on 10th March, but Prof. Samanta could not join the ceremony due to unavoidable circumstances. The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Alak Kumar Buragohain conferred the honour on him in the presence of the Registrar, Deans, Directors, students and other dignitaries.
